【Notice】Reminder for Overseas Chinese Students to Stay Vigilant About Water Safety
Purpose:
To enhance water safety awareness among overseas Chinese students and help protect their personal safety, please review and help disseminate the following information.
Details:
Recently, there have been drowning incidents involving overseas Chinese students in rivers within Taiwan. As many of these students come from overseas, they may be unfamiliar with the unique characteristics of Taiwan’s waterways, such as:
Rapid surges in river levels during the rainy season
Hidden whirlpools and undercurrents
Complex and unpredictable riverbed terrain
These factors can quickly lead to dangerous situations and even fatalities if students become trapped or swept away.
To prevent such accidents during holidays or recreational outings, students should be especially mindful of water safety:
Always observe warning signs near riverbanks and never enter the water impulsively
Only engage in water activities at legal and safe locations, with trained lifeguards and proper safety equipment
While in the water, students should monitor their companions’ conditions, ensuring mutual safety and enabling timely rescue if needed
Warm up properly before entering the water
Avoid prolonged immersion, diving, or other risky behaviors
Do not enter the water in unstable weather or when feeling unwell
Schools are kindly asked to use class time, gatherings, and online platforms or social media to promote water safety education. Help students:
Understand Taiwan’s aquatic environments
Learn proper drowning prevention strategies
Enhance awareness of self-protection and rescue measures
